molecular research lab

The Malaysian Liver Foundation are proud to have the first pathology laboratory in Malaysia to be accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), Australia. This accreditation formally recognises that the laboratory meets international standards for medical testing.

The Molecular Research Laboratory (MRL) is the research arm of the Foundation and was established in April 2000. This initiative aims to improve the quality and availability of laboratory tests for both patients with liver disease and scientists carrying out research in the hepatobiliary field. Since its inception, the MRL has been systematically preparing for ISO 17025 accreditation. As the local authorities and Singapore counterparts were not ready to undertake the ISO 17025 audit for medical testing, the MRL sought accreditation from NATA.

After a process of auditing by three NATA assessors, the MRL was granted accreditation in October 2003. This means that all tests performed at MRL are in accordance with NATA requirements, and meet set international quality standards. Clients who use the MRL's services can be assured of reliable, high-quality testing services.

As the MLF is a charity organisation, the aim for the MRL is not to make a profit but to provide a service to physicians, patients and researchers at an affordable cost.
