His unprecedented length of tenure as IGP reflects interests of all Malaysians. Tun Hanif performed his duties diligently, without fanfare, and won the admiration of all Malaysians. He retired as IGP on 15 January 1994.
In view of his outstanding and impeccable service as IGP, he was awarded the Darjah Seri Setia Mahkota (SSM) which carries the title of ''Tun''. This is indeed a rare honour for senior officers serving with the Government.
Tun Hanif has received numerous other awards from ASEAN member countries in recognition of his selfless service to the region. The many awards he received from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and Philippines bear testimony to the respect and admiration he has earned from our ASEAN leaders. Since his retirement he has been very active, as besides being a member of the Board of Directors of several companies, he is also involved in a number of charitable activities. We are very privileged and proud to have Y.Bhg Tun Hanif as one of our Trustees. With his guidance and experience, the Malaysian Liver Foundation will achieve tremendous success in helping fellow Malaysians do battle against liver disease.
